Frequently asked questions
Canine Influenza - should my dog be vaccinated?
A major concern with the influenza viruses is that, unlike most common causes of respiratory disease, many dogs have never been exposed, and thus have had no chance to develop an immunity.
The viruses can be transmitted through contact with infected dogs or contaminated objects, including people's hands and their clothing, or by airborne droplets from a cough or sneeze. Those at highest risk are those dogs who spend significant time at dog parks, kennels, groomers, doggie daycare, or any other high canine traffic areas, including shows and rescues.
How Can I Remember To Give A Monthly Medication?
Years ago, heartworms were prevented by administering a medication on a daily basis. Fleas and ticks were treated with weekly dips or powders, which didn't work very well anyway. Then some major advances occurred in the field of parasite control, leading to the first generation of effective monthly treatments.
While these treatments are and have been very effective, a major issue has always been remembering to give a medication every month. For those who prefer to use physical reminders, stickers or other reminders placed on a calendar or attached to a regular monthly activity or bill, such as a mortgage can help. Simply adding a reminder to your phone, tablet, or computer calendar works just as well. BI has created a system of monthly e-mail reminders and made it available to pet owners. Just click on this Link and fill out the form.
When should I call the vet?
Many pet owners are unsure whether their pet is "sick enough" to warrant medical attention. We encourage you to call us whenever your pet is behaving abnormally or when you have any questions at all. Telephone consultation is almost always available.
If you plan to bring a new pet companion into your home, it is extremely important to have that pet seen as soon as possible, preferably before you even bring him home. As a matter of fact, we encourage you to contact us even before you get your pet, so that we can arm you with all the information you'll need to make the homecoming a happy and healthy one for everybody.
Don't forget that "routine" pet care, consisting of regular vaccinations and annual examinations, is highly important for the life and health of your pet. With advancing knowledge and better medical care, pets are living longer and are happier and more active than in years past.
At Grove Center Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Malik and the staff work in partnership with you to help assure your pet a long and healthy life with the high quality care you and your pet deserve.
Grove Center Reviews
Erika B. with Mayor Walter
Mixed BreedWe are so grateful to the team at Grove Center veterinary hospital for the care and love they show our pup, Mayor Walter! Within one appointment, they diagnosed him with hypothyroidism that went previously undetected by other providers. He is now healthier, happier, and more energized than we’ve ever seen him— and his teeth are nice and clean thanks to their dental care, too! Thank you for treating him like a member of your own family! Walter and I highly recommend trusting your pet with their team.
Valentina A. with Homer and Morgan
Doberman and Weimaraner- Grove Center Vet has been taking care of my boys for 8 years and I personally appreciate the passion and the dedication of all staff members. Whether it be an emergency or a routine annual visit, they are always willing to listen to the issues and find the best therapy for my dogs. I keep recommending GCVH to all my friends that are looking for a more intimate vet/dog connection, or if like me they are pet’s mom with many many questions 🙂
Sharon H with Maggie, Willow, Cinder and Ash
Labrador Retriever’sOver the past 24 years GCVH has provided excellent health care for our 7 dogs and 3 cats. The staff at GCVH is so personable and cares deeply for our pets. With the previous doctor’s much deserved retirement the veterinary practice is now under the supervision of Dr Naseer Malik. At first we were a bit nervous about changing doctors, but we find Dr Malik caring and knowledgeable. We plan to continue going to Dr Malik for our current 2 cats and 2 dogs. We are delighted to have Dr Malik looking after all our pet’s needs!
Latisha C. with Griselda and Koachella Blu
French Bulldog’sMake sure to bring your pet for routine care or emergency needs to GCVH. Their Team, Dr. Malik, Angelina, Margaret, Crystal, and Izabella are pleasant, efficient, informative, kind, patient, and professional. The doctor is friendly and caters to the pets and fur parents. This location utilizes current technology, via text reminders and check- in. Prices are moderate. The location is easy to find and is being updated. So bring your puppy or kitten for quality care! My fluffy french bulldog, Koachella Blu, loves it there.
Megan R. with Sugar and Carol
Bulldog’sI can't recommend Grove Center Vet enough! My bulldog, Sugar, needed some special attention recently due to an infection on her back, and the staff at went above and beyond to take care of her. They were incredibly knowledgeable about her specific needs and made Sugar feel comfortable. They took the time to answer all my questions thoroughly and made sure I felt comfortable with everything. Most importantly, Sugar is happy and healthy again thanks to their care! She received laser treatment and is now doing so well! If you're looking for a vet that treats your pet great, look no further than GCVH
