Traveling with Your Pet: What You Need to Know

Planning a trip or relocating with your pet? Whether you’re heading across the country or overseas, traveling with animals takes preparation—and Grove Center Veterinary Hospital is here to help make the process as smooth as possible.

Our veterinarian can issue the health certifications required for both domestic and international travel. These documents verify that your pet is healthy, vaccinated, and ready to go wherever your journey takes you.

Domestic Travel

If you’re traveling within the United States, your pet will need a domestic health certificate. This certificate confirms that your pet is up to date on their rabies vaccine and passed a physical exam. Domestic health certificates are usually valid for 30 days and are often required by most airlines, as well as some states and train lines.

International Travel

Heading abroad? Requirements vary widely depending on the destination country. Some nations may require a microchip, specific vaccines, blood tests, or parasite treatments administered within a strict time frame. It’s crucial to research these guidelines in advance using the USDA Pet Travel website, or by contacting the embassy or consulate of your destination.

Once you know the requirements, contact our office to schedule your pet’s health exam. Some travel documents take time to complete, especially if lab work is needed.

Have questions? Give us a call—we’re here to help you and your furry friend travel with confidence.
